From makeup brushes to earthen pots to sushi presses--a group of Japanese companies are promoting their high-quality products in China with the help of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

Following a flurry of meetings in Shanghai, a delegation representing about 30 small and midsize companies from Japan were in Beijing on Friday and Saturday, showing off their products to Chinese buyers. Other "quality products with Japanese taste" included green-tea soaps and sets of 12-color pencils.

The group will move to Chengdu in Sichuan province, one of the largest inland consumer markets in the country, this week.

Organized by JETRO, the delegation will promote Japanese products in seminars and at business meetings. Their products will remain on exhibit in Shanghai through the end of February. The merchandise will also be sold on Taobao Mall, a Chinese shopping website.

A representative of Like-it Co., a furniture and interior goods maker in Katsuragi, Nara Prefecture, said the delegation met officials from Likuai, an appliance importer and distributor of housewares with about 260 outlets in the country.

Li Xianglan of Likuai said: "China and Japan have lifestyles in common."
